economic or social development. Sets out the criteria for
pollutants to ensure protected environmental values.
UNESCO/WHO/UNEP Water Monitoring and Quality
Useful source of information on water
programs, with reference to their frequency and scope. Of
particular help is how different processes/industries effect the
water quality, and therefore what analytes should be monitored. It
has some good hydrogeology references and discusses sources of
water analytes. It also discusses sampling and sample preservation
for various analytes.

National Health and Medical Research Council
(NHMRC) Drinking water Guidelines
Useful for anyone interested in
testing the quality of
their drinking water and treating out contaminants. Discusses
different analytes tested and their acceptable limits. The real
benefit of this guideline is the factsheets on each analyte tested
(including microbiological and radiological). It covers how each
analyte may end up in the water supply, what it’s acceptable
limits are, the health effects of exceeded limits and most
importantly how to treat the water for those contaminants. It also
discusses drinking water treatment chemicals and disinfection. An
invaluable source of information.

respectively. Document 6 looks at drinking water and other topics such
as Groundwater, Effluent and Greywater management are also covered.
